The view from my terrace at the Krisda Ubud Guesthouse is lush, green and embroidered with many colorful flowers. A burnt-orange Bird of Paradise here, a pink frangipani there; each catches your eye for a moment before being drawn back to the luxuriant background of shapes and hues; then finally your eye settles on Ganesh wrapped in his orange and yellow garland, presiding over the daily offerings.
Ganesh also presides over the fountain, encrusted with moss and small ferns, which provides a soothing esthetic and a melodious backdrop for a twittering bird or two; all the while, large palms leaves above him sway in the gentle breeze, almost glistening when caught by the sun. But it’s the warm air and gentle breeze that adds effervescence to this exotic tableau; stimulating my perceptions and heightening the connectivity of everything; and from this comes a revelation.
The beauty of this garden follows a secret recipe: find a well-protected spot, adorn it with a variety of plants of differing shapes and flowers; with these, create some order; but then let them grow to be themselves. Don’t correct every imperfection, some chaos is needed for those who sit and appreciate its loveliness; only in this way can we really understand what perfection is.
This is where I shall write, where I will be inspired.
Author’s Note: This postcard is different from the others, here, instead of writing for plot and twist, I tried to write for feeling, mood, and introspection. Yes, in good prose, the two are together and intertwined, but in this post, … indulge me.
Life-giving description. Thank you. Great for Valentine’s Day.:-)
Great commentary.
